Shameless Commerce

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Don’t worry, I promise you this kind of in-joke will only appear once in a blue moon.

At the end of page two of issue 2 you may spot an interesting item on the newsstand – a copy of Inbound #1. This is the first issue of the Boston Comics Roundtable’s anthology, featuring a piece by me and Ryan Wheeler, a variety of other fantastic comic pieces, and a beautiful cover by Shelli Paroline. Issue 2, with a cover by me and a story illustrated by Shelli, will be available for online orders soon. You can find this and the first volume at the link above, or you can also get your hands on these books at conventions like SPX and APE.

new york comicon report

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Hi, Everyone!

Managed to make it back fron New York ComiCon in one piece, despite the best efforts of that city’s subway system.  I spent ninety-five percent of the con behind the Studio Foglio booth with Phabulous Phil Foglio and Tyreless Gary Tyrrell, two of the most charming gentlemen you could hope to be trapped in a small space with.  I took no pictures, but I did get to meet a couple of you, though I neglected to get any names because I am a punk.  I will endeavour to do better in the future, when we’ve got our own booth (we have a couple cons on the agenda this year, we’ll post when we have details).

The con itself was quite busy–Saturday was sold out, and if you’ve ever been to the Javits Center, you know that that’s saying something.  The crowds were so thick, I really only stopped at a couple of places, forcing myself to ignore the sea of beautiful molded plastic and hobo cantinas.  Happily, that means I kept my purchasing down to one book, thus staving off debtors prison for at least another few weeks.

new england webcomics weekend!

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Speaking of upcoming appearances:  The word is out!  The first New England Webcomics Weekend is happening March 20-22, right in my back yard!*  A whole slew of webcartoonists will be storming the Pioneer Valley, probably the only place in New England where it won’t actually seem all that unusual.  I’ll be here (obviously), and there’s a good chance Mr. Lamb will, as well.

I’m putting together a forum thread so we can chat about the event, so if you’re planning on attending, stop in!

* more accurately, in the building where I work.

NEWW registration

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Hey, guys, just a quick note:  the official registration page for Webcomics Weekend is up!  It’s still free and everything, we just need to get a head count for building-inspector purposes, so go on and register!

-V.

UPDATE:  Wow, geez!  If I’d known registration was gonna fill up in two days, I’d've said something sooner!  Sorry, guys–we’re working in expanding capacity, so if you’re wait-listed, hold on to hope, we may yet find some space.

NEWW

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

New England Webcomics Weekend was amazing. So many creators and fans getting together and talking and hanging out. It was like the world’s biggest college dorm lounge. (Your lounge may vary. Mine were great.)
Sadly, I didn’t take nearly as much advantage of the opportunity as I ought to have. Representing a fledgeling webcomic, I felt obligated to stand behind our work at the table. Also, rubbing shoulders with the kings of the webcomics industry (in some cases, quite literally) was a little intimidating, so I apologize to the folks around whom I kind of just lurked nervously. Next year, should we be so lucky as to get a table again, I’ll be happy to mingle and schmooze and not be a hermit.
Many, many thanks to Meredith & co. for organizing the best not-actually-a-convention in the world.

EDIT: Okay, had to get rid of the old subject line. It was bugging me too much.

Updates

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

We’ve been getting things ready for the new, twice-weekly format, and that caused a couple problems with our site. Comics weren’t updating correctly for a while, there. Anyway, things should be back to normal. Browse around the archives to see if you missed any pages of Colossa.

And again, if you’re in the vicinity of Maine, check out the Maine Comic Arts Festival next weekend. I’ll be there selling The Sting of Defeat, some art prints, and Inbound #3. Check out the guest list. They’ve got some heavy-hitters for a first-time convention!

One more week until the new chapter of Kitty Hawk! I’d better get this stuff done.

a busy morning at the rectangle exchange

Amazing!  I put a little box in the sidebar to let you know where we’ll be, conventionally speaking!

(That is, “speaking in terms of conventions”.  Not “speaking in a conventional fashion”, although that may also be true.  [Though it usually isn't, in my case.])

It’s built out of Google Calendar, so you can add us very simply and unobtrusively to your Life Plan!  Just click the little button at the bottom–I promise we won’t spam your agenda.

For those keeping score, we also took out the two little Project Wonderful boxes in the sidebar, to enhance its utility.  I will miss their cute, symmetrical faces, but housekeeping needed to be done, and I think our other spots are a better deal anyway.
